Thailand’s National Energy Plan to include nuclear

The Energy Ministry said on Thursday that it is preparing the National Energy Plan 2024 and expects it to be launched in September, with key contents to include plans for building nuclear plants and capping electricity costs at under 4 baht per unit.

Coral Bleaching Crisis Affects 21 Marine Parks in Thailand

Extensive coral bleaching has been discovered in 21 marine parks across Thailand, spanning the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, according to the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation. The department reported the issue arose between April and early June, significantly impacting marine life in these regions.

In the Andaman Sea, marine parks such as Mu Ko Ranong, Mu Ko Surin, Mu Ko Similan, Laem Son, and several others, reported coral bleaching. Similarly, in the Gulf of Thailand, parks including Mu Ko Chang, Khao Laem Ya-Mu Ko Samed, Sam Roi Yot, and Mu Ko Chumphon were also affected. Continued …

Thai banks to announce products for green business transition in Q3

Thai banks are expected to announce financial products that will support a transition to green business in the third quarter of this year, a deputy central bank governor said on Thursday. The central bank, however, has not set loan targets for banks, Ronadol Numnonda said at a business seminar.

Thailand needs more financing to help with the transition, as green and sustainably linked loans accounted for only 1.4% of total outstanding lending, while environmental, social and governance bonds made up 5% of outstanding bonds last year, he added. – Reuters
