The target of 1.5C must prevail

The world is burning, and our political leaders are failing us. With temperatures rising at an alarming rate, it seems that anyone who believes it is still possible to limit global warming to 1.5° Celsius is in a rapidly shrinking minority.

As governments around the world fail to meet their responsibilities under the Paris climate agreement, the window for keeping global temperatures below the 1.5C limit has all but closed due to insufficient action. But while some eminent commentators have declared the 1.5C target “deader than a doornail”, I have come to the opposite conclusion: 1.5C will never die. Continued … 

Bangkok’s ‘lung’ afforded green ‘lung’ special status

Bang Kachao, dubbed the ‘lung’ of Bangkok, is being designated as an environmental protection zone exempted from land and building tax, according to government spokesman Chai Wacharonke.

Chai said Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin had instructed related agencies to declare this status for Bang Kachao in Phra Pradaeng district of Samut Prakan. Continued … 

Auction for new renewable power plants planned

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is pushing ahead with an auction for new power plants under its second-phase 3.6-gigawatt renewables scheme, which is expected to draw more investors once some of its conditions are amended.

Thailand’s Olympic jerseys made from recycled plastic bottles

The jerseys worn by Thailand’s national team will be made from recycled plastic bottles to match the sustainability motto at the upcoming Paris Olympics, the manufacturer said.

The manufacturer, Grand Sport Group Co., said the jerseys were made with fabric spun from plastic bottles, keeping in mind the organizer’s bid to protect the environment during the games. Continued … 

Kubota and Greyhound Turn Rice Straw Waste to Agri-Wear Fashion

Siam Kubota, a major company in the agricultural equipment industry, has partnered with Greyhound Original, a Thai brand that designs streetwear-style clothing, to create sustainable fashion using textiles made from rice straw components.

Pitsanu Milinthanuch, assistant managing director and general manager of sales, marketing and service at Siam Kubota Corp., revealed that the products from this collection come from research on innovative rice straw fiber mixed with silk fiber. This was developed into textiles for use in lifestyle fashion products by the Faculty of Agriculture and Technology, Rajamangala University of Technology Isan, Surin campus, in collaboration with rice farmers and silk farmers. KWE Reduces Emissions by Introducing Electric Vehicles in Thailand

KWE-Kintetsu World Express (Thailand) Co., a subsidiary of Kintetsu World Express, has recently introduced electric vehicle (EV) trucks as part of its efforts to reduce CO₂ emissions to move toward a decarbonized society.
