AIS, Gulf to set up solar-powered telecom infrastructure in remote areas

Thailand’s leading digital network provider, Advanced Info Service (AIS), is partnering with Gulf Energy Development, a leading regional firm in sustainable energy and infrastructure, to establish telecommunication infrastructure powered by solar power in remote areas across the country, the two companies said on Friday.

The Highland Research and Development Institute will be assisting the partnership in coordination with local authorities and residents, as well as help with legal issues and necessary information for the companies. Continued … 

US trade commission presses ahead in probe of southeast Asian solar manufacturers

The U.S. International Trade Commission on Friday voted to continue with an investigation into potential tariff-dodging by manufacturers of photovoltaic solar cells in Southeast Asia, the latest in a years-long saga that the U.S. solar industry claims could devastate manufacturing.

The body affirmed on Friday that it will continue the probe into the manufacturers, based in Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. Proponents of the investigation have accused Chinese companies of using those manufacturers to circumvent tariffs on solar panel components. Continued … 

5 Thai Companies Selected as Top Climate Tech Startups 100

Leading research company HolonIQ has announced its Indo-Pacific Climate Tech 100. This initiative identifies 100 innovative climate tech companies, and will help drive forward the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework’s (IPEF) mission to accelerate clean energy investment to the world’s largest, most dynamic, and fastest-growing regions, the Indo-Pacific.

Representing Thailand are five cutting-edge companies. From Bangkok: AltoTech Global, a building management systems company; Carbonwize, a carbon data and intelligence company; MuvMi, an on-demand electric ride-sharing service; and PAC Corp., a heating and energy efficiency company. Standard Energy preps to launch 3-GW Thai production line for PV cells

The photovoltaic (PV) cell production line of a new 3-GW smart factory in Thailand should commence operation by July, the company behind the project, Standard Energy, announced on Friday.

The firm has been building the USD-100-million-plus (EUR 92.3m) facility at the LK Rayong industrial city hub since last year with the intention of adding production capacity for 3 GW of silicon wafers and 3 GW of PV cells. Continued … 

Thailand’s major push for sustainable tourism unveiled

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has launched an ambitious plan to boost sustainable tourism, revealed at the Thailand Travel Mart Plus (TTM+) 2024, held from June 5-7 in Phang Nga.

A key highlight of these plans is hosting Asia’s second Tourism Cares summit in 2025. Partnering with the U.S.-based NGO, this summit will focus on promoting regenerative tourism in Thailand. Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines (SIA), two of Asia’s top aviation firms, have tied up to promote the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the region, a critical initiative for a sector that is facing decarbonization challenges.

The chief executive officers of the Hong Kong-based and Singapore-based airlines on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding on the sidelines of the 80th International Air Transport Assn. Biodegradable plastic sales are expected to help loss-ridden Applied DB, a local polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and adhesive maker, improve its business performance, as the MAI-listed company starts selling the products this year.
