Raid on waste plant finds barrels stored illegally
Authorities raided an industrial waste-treatment plant in Phetchabun’s Sri Thep district and found several barrels containing chemicals buried underground without proper treatment, which may explain why residents have reported a strong chemical odor recently.
The plant is a subsidiary of Aek Uthai Co., headquartered in Phachi district of Ayutthaya province. The raid, carried out on Monday by police and other authorities, including pollution control and factory standard regulating officials, followed an order by acting national police chief Kitrat Phanphet to investigate previous fires and suspected arson attacks at chemical storage warehouses.
