Krungsri secures top winner of social and sustainability accolades

Krungsri (Bank of Ayudhya PCL) became the top winner of social and sustainability accolades for Thai banks, winning “Asia’s Best CSR Award” and “Sustainable Asia Award 2024” at the 14th Asian Excellence Award 2024, organized by Corporate Governance Asia, one of the most authoritative journals on corporate governance and ESG in the Asia-Pacific region, in recognizing the Bank’s commitment to ESG excellence, as well as exemplary ESG finance advocacy.

Four other prestigious awards earned at the event included “Asia’s Best CEO” for Kenichi Yamato, Krungsri president and chief executive officer, “Asia’s Best CFO” for Duangdao Wongpanitkrit, Krungsri chief financial fficer, “Best Investor Relations Professional”, and “Best Investor Relations Company”. – aec10news

Thailand’s Green Hotel Plus gains GSTC-Recognized Standard Status

The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) announced that “Green Hotel Plus” and its Thai version (เกณฑ์ Green Hotel Plus) have gained GSTC-recognized standard status, meaning they have been fully recognized as equivalent to the GSTC industry criteria.

For over 10 years, the Environmentally Friendly Hotel Project (Green Hotel), led by the Department of Climate Change and Environment of Thailand (DCCE), has worked to enhance Thai hotels’ resource efficiency and environmental management, and prepare establishments for international environmental standard assessment. Thailand moves closer to net-zero goal with ‘plastic’ roads

Thailand’s net zero-waste ambitions appear to be achievable now that the Department of Rural Roads’ pilot project to build roads with recycled plastic mixed with asphalt concrete has become a resounding success.

In 2019, the department built four roads with this new mixture covering just over 6 kilometers, Director-general Apirat Chaiwongnoi said on Friday. These roads were thoroughly tested and passed all standards, as per the department’s research and development office, he said. Continued … 

Coca-Cola Expands “Recycle Me” Campaign with New Initiatives

The Coca-Cola system in Thailand, comprising ThaiNamthip Corp., HaadThip, and Coca-Cola (Thailand), in collaboration with the key partner Trash Lucky Co., has scaled up the fourth consecutive year of the ‘‘Coke Recycle Me with Trash Lucky” campaign.

Constant Energy Completes Rooftop Solar Installation for Driessen Catering Equipment

Constant Energy has announced the successful completion of Phase 2 of the rooftop solar project for Driessen Catering Equipment in Lamphun province. This phase adds 813.63 kWp to the initial 1.4 MW from Phase 1, bringing the total capacity to 2.2 MW.

Biofuels to spur investments of Bt114 billion

Biofuels, including gasohol and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), are expected to help generate new investment worth 114 billion baht in the oil business over the next 13 years, as Thailand shifts toward cleaner fuels, according to a revised national oil plan.

Authorities previously planned to promote gasohol E20, a mix of 20% ethanol and 80% gasoline, as a primary fuel for motorists, replacing the popular gasohol E10, which contains 10% ethanol. This shift faced several delays resulting from high ethanol prices. Continued … 

Thailand Experiences Electric Vehicle Boom as Prices Drop and Interest Grows

The popularity of electric vehicles (EVs) in Thailand is on the rise, with more and more people opting for these eco-friendly cars. One major factor driving this trend is the promise of cheaper gas.

As one car owner shared, “I pay 30,000 baht a month for gas for my car that I drive to work.” His brother, who owns an electric car, suggested he invest in an EV and use the money saved on gas to make the switch. 8 in 10 largest EV markets see growth in May with global sales up by 23%

Eight of the world’s 10 largest electric vehicle (EV) markets experienced growth in the year to May, according to data from New AutoMotive’s Global Electric Vehicle Tracker (GEVT).

The growth was led by China and the U.S., who continue to account for more than three-quarters of global EV sales. Each country’s EV market grew by 20% over the past 12 months, keeping in line with global trends. The wider global market saw EV sales rise by 23% to 10.5 million in the year to May – a trend that, if continued, will see global EV sales double their market share by 2028. Continued … 

The Global South is missing out on the EV revolution

Electric vehicle (EV) adoption is soaring: sales could reach 17 million in 2024, accounting for one in five cars sold worldwide, according to the International Energy Agency’s Global EV Outlook 2024.

That growth, however, masks troubling trends. Nearly all EV sales this year will be in China (60%), Europe (25%) and the U.S. (10%). Many countries, particularly those in the Global South, will be left with the remnants. Continued … 

Conserve Bang Kachao’s charm

During a visit to Bang Kachao earlier this month, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin mulled an idea of promoting this part of Samut Prakan province famous for its green space as a high-end tourist attraction.

With a real estate background, it’s easy for the PM to see the value of the area, stretching more than 20,000 rai across six tambons in Phra Pradaeng district, including the namesake Bang Kachao, as well as Bang Krasob and Bang Namphung. Continued …
